The four sizes of ear tips ensure an optimal fit and sound isolation for various ear sizes. Specifically, utilizing the Ear Fit Test feature in the Nothing X app makes it easy to find the ear tip size that best suits your ears.
Appearance and Features
The most noticeable change in Nothing Ear(3) is its charging case. This generation incorporates recycled aluminum material for the bottom base panel.
When held, the cool metallic texture and substantial weight definitely give a premium feel. The top remains transparent plastic, maintaining Nothing’s design philosophy of revealing the internal structure.
Nothing’s design philosophy revolves around transparency and honesty. The transparent design, which fully exposes the product’s interior, goes beyond mere visual effect, allowing users to see how the product is made. The basic shape of the earbuds is largely identical to the previous generation, but the stem angle is slightly lowered for a more stable fit in the ear.
Nothing Ear(3) adopts a “pinch” control method by gripping the bottom of the stem, rather than touch. Pinching the indented part of the stem executes commands with a click sound.
Nothing also pays attention to details for user experience. When placing the earbuds into the case, the left and right directions are indicated by color, making them easy to distinguish even in the dark.
In real-world use, Nothing Ear(3) can be used for approximately 5.5 hours with ANC enabled, and over 22 hours total with the charging case. When using the LDAC codec, playback time is reduced to 3.5 hours with ANC ON and 5.5 hours with ANC OFF.
It also supports fast charging, allowing up to 1 hour of playback with just a 5-minute charge. A full wired charge for the case takes about 70 minutes. Wireless charging is also supported but at a slower speed of 2.5W, requiring approximately 120 minutes for a full charge.

Wearing Experience
The fit was confirmed by mounting the earbuds on an ear simulator. The voluminous housing fits snugly and stably in the ear, while the thin stem ensures good weight balance. In actual use, there was almost no fatigue or pressure even after continuous use for over 2 hours.
Choosing the appropriate size ear tips provides an excellent seal without discomfort. The earbuds remained stable without shaking even during exercise or jogging.
Software – Nothing X App
The Nothing X app works seamlessly on both Android and iOS, offering an intuitive interface and rich customization options.
Upon installing and launching the app, you can configure various features of Nothing Ear(3). The home screen provides an at-a-glance view of battery levels, connection status, and wear detection.
Nothing Ear(3)’s equalizer offers two modes. The basic 3-band EQ provides 5 presets, including a custom option. The advanced 8-band parametric EQ allows for precise adjustment of frequency, gain, and Q-factor for each band.
Spatial Audio offers two modes: Default and Active. In Active mode, you can experience immersive, three-dimensional sound, as if you’re in a theater, when enjoying movies or games. Nothing Ear(3) also provides a personalized sound feature that calibrates the audio to your hearing. A simple hearing test in the app generates a profile tailored to your individual hearing characteristics.
For codec settings, you can choose between AAC and LDAC. LDAC, a high-resolution wireless audio codec developed by Sony, is capable of playing 24bit/96kHz high-resolution audio with minimal loss.
The Ear Fit Test feature checks whether the currently worn ear tips are properly sealed in your ears. Running the test analyzes the seal status of both ears and, if insufficient, recommends switching to a different size ear tip.
Sound Test
Nothing Ear(3) features a V-shaped sound signature, with emphasized low and high frequencies and a somewhat recessed mid-range, optimized for popular tastes. The bass fully leverages the advantages of the 12mm driver, delivering powerful and punchy sound. When playing hip-hop tracks, the bass resonates richly, providing a dynamic sound.
While vocals in the mid-range tend to be slightly overshadowed by instruments, the high frequencies are appropriately emphasized, making high-pitched instruments clear and contributing to a wider overall soundstage.
To test the spatial audio feature, I played a Dolby Atmos-supported audio source. The first minute of the video played in standard stereo, with clear left-right channel separation but a flat sound. In Active mode, a sense of three-dimensional sound was created, as if coming from a 360-degree space around the head. Especially when watching movies or playing games, the directionality of sound effects became clearer, significantly enhancing immersion.
I simulated an 80dBA subway interior environment to conduct the noise-cancelling test. Nothing Ear(3)’s noise cancellation is at a decent level. Low-frequency subway noise was effectively eliminated, and announcements were only faintly audible.
Microphone Sound Quality Test
The system, combining three MEMS microphones and a VPU, demonstrated good performance in typical call environments. Because the VPU detects subtle vibrations in the jaw and ear to capture the voice, speech was conveyed relatively clearly even amidst environmental noise.
The Super Mic in the charging case definitely provided superior recording quality compared to the earbuds’ built-in microphones. Voices were picked up more cleanly and naturally, and ambient noise was effectively suppressed.
User Experience
When I first received the product, the luxurious texture of the aluminum case and the transparent design immediately caught my eye. I primarily used them during my commute, and the decent noise cancellation allowed me to focus on music, though some wind noise did occur on windy days recently.
The sound quality is also satisfying. According to personal preference, adjusting the custom EQ slightly in the Nothing X app can result in a much more balanced sound. Battery life was also sufficient; using them for 2-3 hours daily during my commute required charging only about 2-3 times a week, and thanks to fast charging, a brief top-up in the morning was enough for a full day’s use.
Above all, I was impressed with the performance and utility of the Super Mic. It’s incredibly useful not only for voice calls but also for recording voice memos with much cleaner sound, and it comes in handy when making calls with the earbuds’ built-in mic is difficult due to ambient noise.
