The Sony INZONE H9 flagship gaming headset I reviewed last time delivered truly satisfying performance. However, even with an ultra-lightweight headset, prolonged gaming sessions can sometimes lead to a feeling of weight and stuffiness. Especially in summer, many gamers significantly prefer lighter and cooler gaming earphones over headsets due to sweat and heat.

Sony’s newly introduced E9 in the INZONE gaming lineup is a product designed precisely for these gamers. Created by audio giant Sony in collaboration with the professional gaming team Fnatic, what unique features does this INZONE gaming earphone possess? Let’s take a closer look at the INZONE E9 now.
Specifications and Configuration

The INZONE E9 features dynamic drivers, with an impedance of 16 ohms and a sensitivity of 101dB/mW, allowing for sufficient volume on both mobile devices and PCs. The cable length is 1.8m, providing ample reach even when connected to a desktop PC tower located under a desk.

When I first received the product, what impressed me most was the sturdy hard case. Inside the case, there’s a magnetic strap that allows you to neatly store the earphones and the audio box (DAC). The magnets are strong enough that the contents won’t fall out even if the case is open, providing peace of mind when carrying it.

One of the biggest advantages of the Sony Gaming Earphones E9 is the generous selection of ear tips. A total of 2 styles in 4 sizes (XS, S, M, L) are provided, allowing you to find the optimal fit for your ear shape.

The silicone hybrid ear tips offer a standard fit and minimize fatigue even during long periods of wear. The noise isolation ear tips feature a combined foam and silicone structure, specializing in blocking out external noise. When focusing on gaming, using the noise isolation ear tips significantly reduces ambient noise, allowing you to concentrate more on crucial in-game sounds like footsteps and gunshots.

The audio box is compatible with both PCs and mobile devices, and various EQ settings can be saved through the INZONE Hub software. Weighing approximately 9g, it’s very light, and by saving your settings to the audio box, you can enjoy the same sound environment for gaming on different PCs.
Appearance and Features

The housing of the Inzone E9 features an ergonomic design that takes the shape of the ear into account, resulting in truly excellent comfort. It comes in two colors, black and white, allowing you to choose according to your preference. The white version I received stood out with its clean and modern feel.

Designed with an ear-hook style, the earphones stay securely in place even during intense movements, without falling out. The ear-hook portion is made of a soft material, so it doesn’t chafe or hurt the back of your ear. Since it was designed with direct feedback from Fnatic pro gamers, its practical usability seems to have been thoroughly considered.

The cable is a detachable Y-shaped MMCX type, meaning it can be replaced if damaged. The plug is a 3.5mm gold-plated L-shaped design, offering excellent durability and minimizing bending.

The housing weighs only about 4.7g, and even with the cable, it’s around 26g. When worn, it’s so light that you barely feel any burden on your ears. I was very satisfied because my ears didn’t hurt or get tired even after long gaming sessions.

Sony designed the Inzone E9 with sound optimized for FPS games. The bass isn’t excessively boosted, so you won’t be overwhelmed by explosions or gunshots, yet you can clearly hear important details like footsteps and reload sounds.
Wearing example

The housing is small and fits deep inside the ear, so it barely protrudes from the outside. Thanks to this, some professional gamers even wear the INZONE E9 underneath a headset. This allows them to listen to game audio with the E9 and use the headset’s microphone.

Because it uses an ear-hook design that hangs securely on the ear, the earphones stay firmly in place even if you shake your head. This meant I didn’t have to worry about the earphones while gaming, allowing me to focus solely on the game.
Connectivity and Software

When you connect the audio box DAC to your PC and plug in the earphones, the INZONE E9 is automatically recognized. Various features can be used within the INZONE Hub, the dedicated INZONE software.

The three presets – FPS-1, FPS-2, and FPS-3 – are EQ settings developed in collaboration with Fnatic players. Each preset features different tuning, such as emphasizing gunshots and footsteps or adjusting explosion sounds, allowing you to choose one that suits your playstyle.

When watching movies or listening to music (rather than playing FPS games), using the Bass Boost or Movie/Music presets allows you to enjoy richer bass. However, since this product is optimized for gaming, it lacks the same impact as dedicated music earphones.

To activate the Spatial Sound feature, you need to create an auditory profile via the mobile app. By taking a picture of your ears, the app analyzes your ear shape and generates a personalized profile. Using this feature, the 360-degree three-dimensional sound is further enhanced, allowing you to pinpoint enemy positions more accurately.
Sound Test

While playing Battlegrounds and Valorant, I tested all three FPS presets individually. In Battlegrounds, the directional accuracy of footsteps was outstanding. Inside buildings, I could very clearly hear which floor enemies were moving on, and from which left or right direction they were coming. Similarly, in Valorant, footsteps and skill usage sounds were clearly distinguishable, which greatly helped in identifying enemy positions.

Even when there were explosions or gunshots, it was impressive that my ears didn’t get overwhelmed and other sounds weren’t drowned out. This allowed me to not miss critical sound effects even in combat situations.

Using the Movie/Music preset, I listened to the latest K-POP, and while the mid-range and treble were clearly and well-represented, the bass lacked a bit of punch.

I had a similar feeling when playing the Diablo 4 cinematic video, but after switching to Bass Boost and playing the same video, the bass was more emphasized, increasing the sense of immersion.
Review

After using the Sony INZONE E9 gaming earphones for about two weeks, what I was most satisfied with was definitely the comfort and the directional sound. My ears didn’t hurt even after wearing them for 2-3 hours or more, and the ear-hook design provided great stability, ensuring they didn’t fall out even during vigorous movement.

When using the noise-isolation ear tips, I could barely hear keyboard sounds or ambient conversations, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the game. The ability to pinpoint enemy locations in FPS games is truly excellent; I could accurately determine distance and direction just from footsteps, which provides a clear advantage in FPS games.

As I mentioned before, this product is clearly specialized for gaming, especially FPS games, so if music listening is your primary purpose, you might find it a bit disappointing.
Concluding the Review

The Sony INZONE E9 is a professional gaming earphone designed for serious FPS gamers. Through collaboration with Fnatic, it perfectly incorporates the demands of pro gamers, resulting in a product tailored specifically for FPS games. With its lightweight and comfortable fit, excellent sound localization, and a wide range of ear tip options, it’s definitely a product that FPS gamers will be satisfied with.

However, it might be a bit disappointing for music listening. If you’re looking for a more versatile option, the Sony INZONE Buds would also be a good choice.

But for gamers who primarily enjoy FPS games like Battleground and Valorant, the INZONE E9, true to Sony’s reputation as an audio powerhouse, is a product that can enhance your gaming immersion and improve your skills. We recommend the Sony INZONE E9 gaming earphones for those who find headsets bulky or uncomfortable, or who want to game comfortably during the upcoming summer.
